Kristie Prinz's practice focuses on representing high tech and life sciences companies in a variety of domestic and international transactional matters, including but not limited to technology licensing and research collaborations; development, supply, purchase, and commercial services agreements; nondisclosure agreements; mergers and acquisitions; and employment and severance agreements.  She also works with companies from other industries on intellectual property and e-commerce matters.  Her practice includes advising individuals and early stage start-ups to large publicly traded companies.

Prior to opening her own firm, Kristie was in the licensing group of the New York-based intellectual property firm of Pennie & Edmonds LLP in Palo Alto, CA, which closed its doors in December 2003.

Kristie is licensed to practice law in the states of California and Georgia.

Education

Kristie is a graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Law in Nashville, Tennessee, where she received her J.D. in 1998, and she completed the Global Bioexecutive Program at UC Berkeley Haas School of Business in 2005.  She also a graduate of Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina, where she received a B.A summa cum laude in Political Science and Spanish in 1995, and she studied as an undergraduate student at the Universidad de Nebrissenssis in Madrid, Spain in 1993.

Business and Legal Affiliations

Kristie currently serves as Vice Chair of both the VOIP Committee and the Programs Committee for the Science and Technology Law Section of the American Bar Association, Director of Life Sciences/Biotechnology for the NAWBO Silicon Valley Board of Directors, and co-chair of the Telecom and Intellectual Property Subcommittee for the California State Bar’s Cyberspace Committee of the Business Section. Kristie was recently elected to become a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation, an honor which is limited to one third of one percent of the lawyers in America, and she was selected to serve on the Nominating Committee for the Science and Technology Law Section of the American Bar Association.

Kristie’s other service includes the Cyberspace Committee of the Business Law Section for both the American Bar Association, the Corporate IP Management Committee for the Intellectual Property Owners Association, the Fundraising Committee for the Entrepreneurs’ Network in Santa Clara, and the Life Sciences and Entrepreneur Venture Catalyst Program planning committees for the Women’s Technology Cluster in San Francisco, CA.  In addition, Kristie is a member of the Georgia State Bar Association, the International Technology Law Association, the Licensing Executives Society, and the Forum for Women Entrepreneurs & Executives.

Kristie's prior service includes chairing the Copyright Licensing Subcommittee for the American Bar Association’s Intellectual Property Section and co-chairing the 2006 Selma Moidel Smith Writing Competition for the National Association of Women Lawyers. She also served on the U.S. Copyright Law Committee of the Intellectual Property Owners Association.

Kristie is the author of Unlocking the Secrets to Executive Coaching published in the Women Lawyers Coaching published in the Women Lawyers Journal in Summer, 2005 and the co-author of When a Business Begins a Blog: It’s Easy but Is It Safe? published in the Business Law Today, Volume 16, Number 3, January-February 2007 and the Ruling Brings to Light DMCA’s Broad Scope published in the New York Law Journal on June 9, 2003. She also has authored numerous columns for the weekly “Ask a Lawyer” intellectual property column published by Lawyers.com and publishes The California Biotech Law Blog.
